A Little Bit About Me...

I returned to school in 2007 to pursue a career in education. In several corporate positions, I was responsible for training new employees in various store operations. I have volunteered as a teacher in my church and taught Sunday School at the middle school level. During my courses and student teaching, I utilized many hands-on and inquiry-based tools to help students learn new concepts. Because I am certified in Elementary Education, I have a solid background in many academic disciplines.
I believe in a constructivist approach to education. Stusents come with prior knowledge of topics. My goal is to get those students to connect prior knowledge with new information. I also believe that there are mltiple ways that students learn. They can have multiple intelligences in several areas, such as artistic, kinesthetic, or visual and spatial. I had been a teacher for 12 years engaging in a multitude of learning styles and methodology. I spent 6 years serving as principal at all levels. I was Director of Education for two years and then served as Superintendent of Schools for two districts for a total of 15 years. During that time I never lost connection with teaching, mentoring students from all levels of education and continued to teach in the classroom at least once a week. I was an adjunct professor for two years at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania. I retired in 2009 to travel and photograph the country, while living in and RV.
