I believe in engaging the students in their learning. In order to avoid boredom and to get students active in their learning, they need to move, collaborate, and have discussions and Socratic Circles to debate and argue their ideas in a reasonable way to prepare them for what goes beyond grade school. Students should be involved in projects that involve creation, and thinking outside of the box. We should be teaching our students to use digital tools in order to take an interest in learning outside of the classroom. And because of so much technology, students have information at their fingertips, which means instead of memorization and recall questions, we should have students explain what they have learned through a variety of methods using a variety of research. High school was a blast, and I loved every moment!! I was the history buff, drama geek, grammar police and still am to this day. I did High School plays every year in High School, scored perfect on the English portion of my ACT, was a teachers aide for my History and English teacher, wrote for the school paper, studied Journalism, Drama, English and History as hobbies in High School as well as Photography and the Arts.
Fun and intense. I refuse to be drab or boring. Associate learning with life, colors, songs, music, memories, movies and media. Pete and Repeat were sitting on a fence. Pete fell off. Who was left? I have a positive and patient way of getting through to students. Science was my favorite subject matter in college and I like to break down difficult information into terms that are easier to understand and follow. For example, I like to break down scientific terms by their roots. In doing so, my students not only remember what the terms mean for that class but can also apply that knowledge in future class work. I also believe in using reinforcement techniques such as repetition, writing, and regular revision/quizzing of the subject matter so that this not only keeps the information fresh but also make it easier to build on that information further.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping people and do my best to explain everything in detail. Math and chemistry come easier to me than others, and I understand this. That is why I take my time and do not get frustrated. Anyone can learn; you just have to figure out what is their best learning style and adapt for them to learn. I have always loved helping people, and I feel tutoring is a rewarding process.
I am graduating in May with my BA in Chemistry. I will continue school in the fall in hopes of entering the nursing program. I have helped several students with high school algebra, junior high algebra, as well as college algebra. I have helped non-traditional students not only pass but receive A's and B's in their math classes after not having a math class for 20 or more years. I have helped kids with special needs (such as autism) pass college level courses as well.
