Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Bachelor of Science in American Sign Language-English Interpreting

Hands-on learning! The first session will be in spoken English. The rest will be voice-off, using only Sign Language and other available resources.
I have completed required American Sign Language college courses, levels I-V, as well as studies in ASL Linguistics, Deaf Culture, ASL Grammar, etc. I was one of three ASL tutors for my school's ASL program of 110+ students, levels I-IV. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in American Sign Language-English Interpreting from Keuka College.

A Little Bit About Me...

I found each day of working with my students both challenging and rewarding. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to education; rather I feel that programs should be developed/adapted to meet the needs of each individual. Educators must fit the program to the child, not fit the child to the program. Whether or not a student has a disability, it seems to me that the goals are basically the same: to help our youth to develop their maximum potential, whatever that may be, and to grow to be competent, productive, and independent young adults.
As a teacher for the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, I had the privilege of working with students, age 3 to 21, who had significant cognitive impairments, and occasionally other disabilities such as autism and physically impairments. I am patient and enjoy working with students that would be classified as difficult. I see that difficulty as being one or two things, they are over achievers and that results in boredom, or they require attention and lack of it results in giving up. I am firm and fair, but always start my classes out with a hopes and fears exercise , where we come together on what expectations we have for one another. We review the contents of that signed document at the conclusion of the course. Each student comes with unique capabilities, I see it as my job to discover that motivation key. In my experiences, I have tutored many students from elementary to college level; mainly in mathematics and occasionally grammar. I have always had a knack for math; even as a senior in high school I chose to take Trigonometry as an elective. My Associates Degree in Telephony Engineering further increased my technical thinking and knowledge. My Bachelors Degree in Business Management strengthened my writing and grammatical skills from the many individual and team writing assignments.
