My experience began as a teacher in the public school system where I taught for three years in an elementary setting. Following this, I worked as a teacher and Tutorial Coordinator in a deaf school for four years. I instructed middle school students in all subjects but tutored all age and developmental levels. I currently work as a behavioral therapist and help students with autism and other developmental disabilities using ABA therapy and have been doing this for two years. I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school.
