I received my BA from Azusa Pacific University in 1994. In 1995, I worked full-time as a teacher while going to school at night and received my Multiple Subject Credential. I have been teaching in the public schools since 1994. I have taught 7th and 8th grade math, science, US History, and ESL. I have also taught Seriously Emotionally Disturbed children, 1st grade, 6th grade, and Kindergarten. I have a passion for teaching students to read because my own child has dyslexia. I understand the struggle it is for these children to succeed in school, so when i tutor, I use the Susan Barton Reading program, which is a multisensory approach to reading and phonics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a qualified teacher originally from Australia now living in Modesto. I am a graduate from the University of Tasmania in Launceston, Australia. I have taught the 6th grade for 6 years in Australia and I also taught in a high school in London. I have also worked as a private tutor for students from the 3rd through to the 9th grade. As a full time classroom teacher I have been responsible for all aspects of teaching classes of 30+ students including the planning, implementation and assessment of learning.

I taught for twenty five years at the middle school level mostly in a self contained sixth grade classroom. In addition to teaching reading, English, math, science,and social studies, I taught electives is video filming and remedial reading. In my experience as a teacher, I discovered that all students can learn if they are properly motivated. I found that I could best motivate a student if I found what they were interested in, and what grade level they were working at. I also worked for five years as a substitute teacher.
I believe in individualized teaching. In my sixth grade classroom, I individualized instruction wherever possible. In reading I tested my students and placed them in books at their reading level.
