After earning my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Mathematics in 1990 from the California State University at Stanislaus, I entered the credential program. In the credential program at C.S.U. Stanislaus, I became well prepared for all the nuances besides teaching that goes with being a teacher. As a college student, I enjoyed helping others and began working in the tutoring center at Merced College. After I transferred to CSU Stanislaus, I worked both at the tutoring center and for a state program that placed me in one of the local high schools to work with groups of seniors with low math scores in order to help improve their SAT scores. After graduation, I was hired as a substitute teacher. However, the classroom setting was not as enjoyable as tutoring.
