Using Technology and Simplicity to Explain Difficult Topics

I understand A&P is a very frustrating topic at first. However, what I like to show everyone is we already come in with a great understanding of familiarity of this topic, since we live it every day. What I try to do for the topics that seem very complex is break them down into easy to understand points. For example, I discuss how blood flowing through the vessels is like water flowing through a garden hose. Physiology is one of my top subjects! I am a vertebrate anatomist with 18 years experience teaching comparative vertebrate physiology and human anatomy and physiology, all at a college level.

My philosophy of teaching is guided mainly by one over-riding principle, respect for the student with focus on the individual. I have taken courses with large lecture sections where out of necessity the professor talked at, or worse over, the student audience, and in this situation I have noticed a tendency for students to disconnect from both the professor and the class material, which certainly hindered material comprehension.
