Throughout high school, I tutored my fellow peers in all areas of education. In my senior year, I ran the tutoring program as well as tutored others. In college, I volunteered with my sorority to tutor fellow classmates. In law school, I was a teacher's assistant, wherein I taught legal procedures to 30-40 students. Expert at finding the solution to help you or your child!

I work at the corporate office for Owl Tutors. We help match students to the perfect tutor in the South Florida area. Our tutors have been tutoring for many years and work with elementary through college students. Helping people and seeing them learn motivate students and is why they love with they do. They are extremely patient and willing to do what it takes to ensure you learn the material, as opposed to just passing exams.
Our tutors are trained to be able to relate problems to the real world, making them concrete and simple. For example, a question may ask what is 7 times 25? This problem is abstract and challenging to some people. Thus, I rephrase it to, "If you have 7 quarters in your pocket, how much money do you have?" By making the problem more relatable to the student, the problem suddenly appears easier and less intimidating. Our tutors go through training on how to ass ... read more

My direct experience as a student assistant and individual tutor has led me to the approach of asking questions of the student of the material. As an example in the case of finding limits of continuous functions, a good question to ask is "what is the definition of a limit?” I have found that in rudimentary math classes it is not so much the material that is a cause for lack of understanding, but rather a convoluted starting point. The best success can be achieved by solid preparation, my goal as an instructor is to develop a good approach. Using definitions and examples, and giving the student the opportunity to problem solve, finally through my own knowledge show step by step how a succinct solution can be found.
Through my training I experienced the Calculus sequence, two semesters of differential equations, analysis, and algebra. Through my course work not only did I learn tech ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I choose a career in physics after taking two years of physics in high school. My teacher showed us how exciting physics can be through lectures and laboratory experiments. His enthusiasm was passed on to his students. He would be my role model in teaching physics. I also have a sufficient background in mathematics that I could help the students if they are having problems with the mathematics necessary to study physics at all levels.
Professionally I have one semester of teaching physics. I taught college sophomore engineering students electricity and magnetism. I have tutored several high school seniors in both calculus and non-calculus based physics. I also have two years of experience tutoring middle school students mathematics.

I truly enjoy working with my students and helping them achieve their academic goals. I find that though some of my students quickly become discouraged and fall behind in a classroom environment, with regular one-on-one help focusing on their specific difficulties they become much more confident in their skills and begin to learn more independently in their classes. I am very patient with my students and am willing to spend the time it takes for them to gain a firm grasp of the material they are learning. My goal is to improve my students' academic performance and increase their confidence in their own abilities.
A recent graduate in biomedical engineering from the University of Miami, I have worked as a tutor for high school and college students for the past three years. I have experience teaching math through calculus II, chemistry, physics, English, and Spanish, and I have a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is about much more than the transfer of information from one individual to another. As educators we are given an opportunity to play a unique role in helping students discover and achieve new potential. With the passing along of information, educators shape the way that students understand the world and their place in it. But much more is conveyed through teaching than just information. The teacher’s attitude or way of being toward the subject matter is communicated as well. Certainly there are numerous other factors that contribute to a student’s willingness and ability to explore and grow as a person. But I don’t think it can be denied that a teacher can have a powerful impact on a student’s growth as well. I intend to take up these principles and utilize my role as a teacher to aid students in their growth as individuals and in discovering new possibilities for themsel ... read more

My teaching style is definately dependant on the student's learning style. Some people need to see the answer and reverse engineer it to understand. Some people need to visually work problems out. My bread and butter would probably have to be teaching with logic. With the basic principles of logic, an individual can learn the basics to almost anything. Another style/gift of mine is cutting out the extra material. When instructors hand students material to learn, there is a large amount of information that is not critical. I find and relay the critical pieces. I do not really know, sometimes you just have to hit a student from multiple angles to get something to stick.
I have always been at the top of my classes related to math and sciences. Doing so has forced me to be looked up to by fellow students. It seemed that students eventually ended up asking me the same questions as the t ... read more
