I belive the key to teaching is Patience! Not everyone learns the same way so you cant always teach the same way. The best way to teach is to find the way that the individaul learns whether its through reading, seeing, or listening to the material. I like to try to provide many examples that they can relate to so that it will stick with them.
As a recent graduate and former tutor I still have a strong drive for learning and helping others to learn. I had two areas of study while attending college, they were Business and accounting. During this time I took several math, business, and writting classes giving me a good balance in all skill areas. I have worked extremely hard to develop a well rounded educational background. I have earned a BS in Exercise Science, with a minor in Business Administration. I also have completed several elective math and science courses as prerequisites for a Doctorate of Physical Therapy of which I will be starting in the 2009-2010 school year. I have had the privileged of completing countless written assignments, scientific papers, and homework assignments. I have no experience in tutoring however, I enjoy teaching others what I have learned.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. Throughout those years I've encountered many special needs students and many bright students, tutoring in subjects ranging from English, Math, Social Studies, to Computer Science.

At the University of Illinois I decided to follow my passion and study both mathematics and finance, this lead to a degree in Actuarial Science. After working as an Actuary for the better part of 5 years, I decided to come back to school to study Finance and Marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. I have been tutoring students in statistics since I was an undergraduate in college.
I enjoy helping students learn the concepts of mathematics/statistics and helping them to understand how to use these concepts in the real world. Math can be quite challenging, but with the right amount of effort, patience, and guidance, anyone can learn. I know this because I've tutored students as young as 12 and adults as old as 30.
