My name is Lisa and I am a former second grade teacher. I tutor a fourth grade boy once a week and would like to add some students to my schedule. I have worked with children from grades k-5 on strengthening their math, spelling, reading and writing skills. I would like to continue tutoring children, since educating has been my passion since I was 15. I thrive on helping children grow academically. I've helped my little brother who has ADHD with his homework, I've worked with him through book projects, spelling tests, history homework, pretty much anything and everything. My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored beginning accounting students for a couple hours a week aside from the usual work of helping classmates. Upon graduation I began looking other ways to continue teaching. About 10 months ago I began volunteering at a community center. There I partnered with another gentleman to teach English as a language to immigrants. It was so much that I decided to make this a weekly ritual. I began teaching private piano and oboe lessons around 1970 and continued it as time permitted until the present. It is enjoyable and rewarding to see someone work hard and feel with them the joy of their success. I have played all the instruments to varying degrees to be able to teach them. When I began substitute teaching in the 1990s I was able to teach almost every subject on every level. My strengths are reading, mathematics (including algebra and geometry), English, grammar, Spanish, and of course music. I have worked with and accompanied soloists and ensembles for recitals and contests, played in several orchestras, and been a librarian. I have also taught Spanish. As a graduate from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, I have been well prepared in my chosen fields. I have bachelor degrees in both Exercise & Sport Science: Fitness, and Spanish, through which I have acquired a vast knowledge of health and fitness. I have also studied abroad in Spain, and lived and worked in Lima, Peru for 6 months upon graduation from college. This has exposed me to the Hispanic culture, increased my Spanish skills, and given me experience teaching English to speakers of other languages.
