My comments on tutoring Political Science : Poli Sci Degree from Washington State University

The roles of the teacher and student are one in the same. I go into teaching knowing that I am not the end all shepherd of information but I am going to give all I can at being as clear, concise, informative, and objective.
My first teaching experience was in high school teaching at after school programs about basic economic principles that may apply to kids. That was my first time understanding that I have potential to assist others in grasping topics. In my college career, I found myself teaching people everything from music to proper uses of tense/grammar. As an Honors Graduate of Washington State University, Vancouver, I pursued my English degree with an emphasis on Educational Methods instruction. This enabled me to learn real-world educational fundamentals in building and presenting teaching materials. As a life-long writer, I have acquired extensive grammatical skills. My approach is to incorporate multiple learning styles (visual, auditory and so on). I also like to incorporate skills training as part of a scenario when possible. Using techniques like appropriate background music, brief stretch breaks, having the children read to Sierra, my golden retriever, are all techniques that I would like to use. Teaching children would be a joy and very rewarding. I had trouble learning to read when I was young until I attended Mrs. Bird's class. She took the time to meet with me one-on-one and taught me to read and changed my life in the process. Seeing adult learners’ eyes light up when they "get it" have been some of the best times in my career. I would love to see that light in a child's eyes too.

I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!
I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations.
