A Little Bit About Me...

I am a seasoned adjunct instructor and tutor at the introductory level at a Community College. I have taught a graduate level Chemistry course at a Masters granting College. My education includes a M.S. Polymer Chemistry/Science, B.S. in Biology and 46 Credits of Chemistry . More importantly I have worked as a teaching assistant at a School for Autistic children. Through this experience and others I developed a high level of patient and understanding of the different styles of learning and the broad spectrum of speed for which children master concept.
I am a firm believer that strict memorization does not allow the student to broaden their ability to solve problems of various flavors. In my disciplines, the value of understanding totally outweighs rote memorization and learning of “recipes” for solving problems. I believe students understand new concepts in terms of their previous experience and background. I attempt to link previous experience to new experience and promote meaningful learning. I believe the instructor should be like a coach. In education as in athletics, he or she should be regarded as an individual who helps the student realize his or her full potential.
I have master’s degrees in Mathematics and Statistics with related work in Physics and Astronomy. My 20 years in education includes teaching at various colleges and high schools providing instruction in Statistics, Physics, Calculus and College Algebra.
