I received a BA in History from the University of Arkansas in 1991. My cumulative GPA at the U of A was 3.96. I was in the Honors Program and graduated Summa cum Laude. I also received several other academic awards from the History Department and the University. I have worked in the Commercial Construction industry for the past seventeen years. For the past five years I have been deeply involved in employee training. I have extensive experience in mentoring minors and persons with intellectual disabilites for 3 years. In highschool and college, I regularly tutored highschool and college students in algebra, highschool chemistry, and english. I am very patient and reassuring to students and wait for them to get the answer on their own when tutoring mathematics. I show them how to do it first, then let them try, and then re-explain. My teaching style is one of discipline and at the same time hands-on. Students must feel the relevance of the world around them in order to gain an understanding of what's being taught. I work with the individual but never let the focus off of the competition that's waiting. Students must understand that learning is an every day, every moment experience. It's all about how they see the world around them. I love teaching and working with children. The "aha" moment is what I live for. As a teacher in Ukraine, I was not there to replace the normal history and literature teachers. Instead, I supplemented their lessons and focused on developing critical thinking skills and stressed one on one interactions with the students. With history, the real teaching comes not in the memorization of facts, but in gaining an understanding of context, critical thinking, and the ability to approach the subject with a degree of relativity.
