I have taught private lessons for a year, while also teaching ballet, modern, and jazz in studios. I also led dance class at a charter school for a year twice a week. During my private lessons I got to work one on one with individuals and truly see dramatic improvement. I strive to see my students grow and cultivate their own creativity in movement.

I am very fond of the unit study method that helps students work all aspects of certain skills in one concentrated subject. Both my undergraduate and graduate collegiate experiences have given me ample knowledge and skills to draw from with regard to teaching and tutoring. The experience of doing it, however, gave me much more. While I was in graduate school at the University of Texas I tutored women athletes. My teaching career began immediately after I finished graduate school in Austin, Texas. I taught in Austin for a year at Virginia College and then took a teaching job at the Florida Keys Community College. I was a Speech Teacher. The Socratic method of teaching has been instilled in me as the most engaging and successful approach to learning. Through a series of deliberate, well-directed, leading questions from a tutor, the student arrives at the "answer" through his or her own reasoning process, as opposed to getting the answer through a tutor spitting out information. This approach builds confidence in the student, rather than dependence on the tutor, as the student receives a model of the learning process that they will ultimately be able to implement themselves.
