Teaching has always been a passion of mine. Watching a student light up after learning how to do something is the greatest thing for me. I believe children can learn and be successful but each in different ways. I believe we as teachers must use differentiated instruction to help all students learn. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching -- standing in front of a class of students, feeling the pressure of their attention and responsibility for their education -- but I think I enjoy tutoring more. Even when I was teaching a class of twenty-five college freshmen, I tried to move things in that direction, giving my students incentives to come by during my office hours (hard to do with such busy students). In the classroom, I made good use of the SMART boards (interactive computer displays), although I also enjoyed just talking to the students: I made the classroom a place that was relaxed and open to free discussion, but one which also had a purpose (basically, to learn to write). I enjoy teaching and working with children: my parents adopted my two little sisters when I was a teenager and decided to home school them, so I helped out with their education.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I was in college, I was a nanny/ tutor for two girls- ages eight and nine for two years. Soon after, I spent two years as a paraprofessional, working one-on-one with emotionally disturbed and behavior disorder students ages twelve to eighteen. At Emporia State University I student taught in Kansas City, Kansas elementary schools for a full year and graduated with honors. Currently, I am a substitute teacher in Kansas City waiting for a full time position this fall. My focal points in tutoring are Language Arts, Social Studies, the arts, and general elementary education.

Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.
