I think learing about your student is most important thing first and then teach them the way they learn quick, such as if they are visual learning or practical learner. that's what i do with my students, simply talk to them and ask what they think is the easy way to learn stuff for them and that's how I try to help them.

In high school and college, part of the community service that I performed was tutoring elementary school kids in math. My BS in finance has given me ample experience and knowledge in the field as well as improved my math and reasoning skills.
I know everyone learns in different ways, so I have found the best way to make someone understand is to put it in terms of something they understand, whether it be sports, chess, movies, anything.
