My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : I have programmed in several computer languages including VB, C++, C#, PHP, TCL/TK, Java, Python and several others.

I am capable of both structured and informal teaching styles depending upon the situation. I find that when smaller increments of course instruction is followed up with the student demonstrating proficiency and comprehension the overall learning experience is maximized. Repetition is normally the best way to comprehend not only the material presented but it allows the student to assimilate the steps and formulas simulataneously.

My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : I'm best with MATLAB, but this is comparable to C/C++. I'm familiar with programming logic.

In my experience as a student, I have often questioned the teaching methods of many teachers and professors. I sometimes realize more effective ways things could be explained, once I understand it. I began tutoring math for Stetson University which ranged from Algebra 1 to Calculus 2. I then began tutoring privately and I have tutored lower level math and advanced statistics. I have tutored a student who was failing calculus in class but then they earned the highest possible grade on the standardized test. I also have a degree in mathematics.
My teaching style involves a lot of examples and having the student answer the questions on the board. I am able to come up with examples off the top of my head and have the student work through the problem to prevent "dumb" mistakes (such as forgetting a minus sign). I am very patient and allow my students as much time as possible and encourage them to ask whenever they are stuck. I try to show that math can be fun and interesting and that there are applications out in the real world.

I don't believe the grade of "F" should stand for failure, but for feedback. It means the way you are doing something isn't working correctly. I use Thomas Edison experiment getting the light bulb- took him 99 attempts- if he quit after the tenth try we all might be using whale oil today or kerosene at night to read. I believe all children have the potential to learn however some children need to be motivated more about the importance of learning. I am willing to listen to a child to help them out plus I try to display the values of the Boy Scout Law and oath which includes kindness.
