An understanding tutor

The teaching style that I have always promoted is to recognize that everyone learns on a different level and at a different pace. Therefore, a step by step instructor is needed and that instructor has to know how to meet that individual needs based on what they know not what I know. You find alot of college professors teach lessons based on what they know and their experience not realizing that the some students learn at different paces. I experienced this as both an undergraduate and graduate student but I had to go through it or drop the class.
I have worked with all grade levrls as substitute school teacher with range from pre k to 12th grade and worked for a tutoring company while turoring an elementary student in math. I have a masters degree and while obtaining my degrees, I am very familiar with test preparation. I have taken basic computer classes in the past and I am m ... read more

ENJOY LEARNING! FEEL PRIDE IN YOUR SUCCESS!

I have a high level of qualifications and professionalism because of my extensive experience in Education, now over 25 years. My students were very important to me. I cared about them and their quality of Education. After becoming a Master Teacher, I was proud to represent the teachers of my state with Governor Cecil Andrus and statewide schoolboards. My students attained levels two to four and a half years above grade level on their annual Standardized Tests. My expectations of them were very high and I was very proud of their efforts and improvements.
My teaching style is more the cooperative, reasonable method that prevents problems. Children need to have lots of praise and rewards for their work and efforts. It promotes growth and encouragement. My students will realize that they have to really pay attention to learn and get it. Their study skills will include organizin ... read more

Creative, innovative, and interesting lessons are my forte. I am experienced in providing a constructivist-based approach to knowledge acquisition. Hands-on lesson promote student involvement and increase the development of student responsibility towards their education. I have found that a cross-curriculum approach to the material being presented fosters true understanding and relevance.
I am a student of history and believe that knowledge acquisition comes from interest and enthusiasm on the part of the learner. This interest comes from having an instructor who them selves is a learner. A partnership in the tasks being presented usually results in the student wanting to understand the information and making connections. To promote critical thinking I present the material in a global manner, allowing the learner to relate the information/skill to the real-world.

A Little Bit About Me...

I hold a M.A. in medical anthropology as well as a B.A. in cultural anthropology. Throughout graduate school I worked as a teaching assistant and upon graduation I taught biological and cultural anthropology courses for the University of Memphis's department of anthropology. The focus area of my graduate studies was child health; this resulted in working on numerous projects with elementary and middle school aged students. In the past I have volunteered with adult literacy programs and I feel equally comfortable teaching teens as well as children.
I love working with children; I began early on as a summer camp counselor for the Girl Scouts of America organization. Additionally I baby-sat throughout my undergraduate years and as mentioned child health became my focus during graduate school. I believe that learning is best achieved through tactile experiences that help the individual ... read more

I believe all children have a story which is vital to learning before good teaching can occur. I have discovered that different children require different approaches to learning, and I enjoy uncovering what these are and integrating different styles within the classroom. I believe in cultivating a close a partnership with parents by keeping them updated on progress and assisting them in developing a plan for home support. Teaching requires passion, endurance, patience, and flexibility. Children must understand that you care and believe in their ability to succeed, and I strongly believe that I am such a teacher.
For the past 7 years I have been teaching in a private school setting. Although classroom sizes are small, I am required to teach multiple subjects. This year, I taught 3-7 grade Latin, 5th and 7th grade social studies, 5th grade grammar and writing, and 5th gra ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My tutoring began in high school, when I tutored younger students in any subject, from Math to English. I learned to love tutoring. I enjoy helping people to realize their full potential. The most rewarding part of tutoring, in my opinion, is the look on the child's face when something finally makes sense. I have obtained a BBA from the University of Toledo. While in college, I spent a year as a tutor and mentor to younger students, and to help teach a Freshman Orientation course. I have also been responsible for training new hires at my last place of employment. During my two years, I trained 4 new employees in my department, as well as cross-training 2 employees from other departments.
I believe that teaching should be a collaborative process. The first step is to listen to the child and try to gain a sense of their own learning process. If you understand how the child learns, ... read more
