My main experience lies in working with elementary aged children in literacy and religious education programs. However, I received a bachelors degree in political science from DePauw University and a law degree (with honors) from the University of Nebraska, so I have a great deal of educational experience to draw from in teaching students as a tutor. In addition to my educational experience, I also have “real world” business experience and excellent research and writing skills through working as an attorney, all of which I will also draw from while tutoring. As a college graduate and a mentor at a behavioral health facility I have gained valuable knowledge and confidence in one on one guidance. I have a BA in psychology and a BFA in studio arts and I am currently pursuing a place as a PhD candidate in the educational psychology program at UNL. I am experienced in math, english, psychology, and studio art. Also, I volunteered for the Lincoln Initiative for Tutoring program where I tutored elementary students after school and served as a role model. My teaching style is about positive feedback and patience. With my experience in psychology I have found that a calm nurturing environment lends itself to bolstering understanding for children. Also, a calm environment allows a child the ability to think without excessive distraction. Everyone learns in their own personal way and as a mentor I would like to help foster that.

I am a retired Elementary teacher. I taught most of my 30 years working with Kindergartners, First and Second graders, but I have substitute taught grades K through 8th.
