Certified Teacher wanting to help you!

July 2011 I graduated from University of West Georgia in Carrollton with a B.S. in Middle Grades Education. I began substituting for the Heard County School System in August 2011. When I was in middle and high school, I served as a peer tutor. I guess you can say that I have always had a desire to teach.
Just as everyone has their own learning style, teachers have their own teaching style. I see my style as more hands on. When I create lesson plans, I like to think outside the box and find ways that motivate students in connection to their interests.

Having lived overseas on two occasions and having run several businesses in many environments, I have a diversified experience base to relate authentic examples to the educational setting. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is based on my belief that my purpose is that the student learn the material. If that means backtracking and presenting the material in a different manner or using more examples then that is what I will do. Especially in math and accounting, the building blocks must be solid in order to advance so I do concentrate on each step being strong.
My parents were both educators and my daughter is a professor, so I can say in all honesty that education has been a most important aspect of my life. I have been very successful as a college instructor and a tax school teacher. I do not have any tutoring experience but with my love of education and my own work ethic I know I can be instrumental in a students academic success.

I would say my teaching style is more relaxed. I believe this helps one see students weaknesses and strengths better. It also allows one to compare the overall effect of teaching for each student. When I see a student falling behind then thats when I take action and try top get them where they should be in that area.

Since 1999 I have tutored in many formats and venues entailing; elementary students, college students and adult learners. From 1999 to 2001 taught sociology courses at Auburn University as Graduate Assistant, and from 2003-2005 K - 8 students reading comprehension and English Arts. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching all children, especially adolescents. Tutoring allows me the luxury of working with students one on one and developing lessons based on their abilities and interests. Nothing takes the place of lessons that are tailored to individual learning styles. My goal is to find something -- a subject, a genre -- that will light the reading fire in my students. Nothing can improve the overall test scores as well as reading and absorbing the language and lessons of great literature. I am especially gifted at motivating children to read, and reading is the best way to gain the skills to succeed in class and on standardized tests.
I have been trained by some of the most demanding professors in the U.S., including Dr. Susan Willis, dramaturg of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. One of my essays, "Strands of Transcendentalism in Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass" has been publis ... read more
