Taught: Elementary Education-First, Second, Third Grades, Subbed all grades plus Special Education. Taught/Coached Swimming, Tumbling, Cheer, Sports. Also taught Preschool, After School Care Programs, Summer Camps, Day Camps. Other Teaching Experience: Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, 5 Day Clubs.
Specializing in discovering how student best learns. Open Ended Questions, Focus on Strength while pinpointing areas of weakness to correct and strengthen areas of concern. To me, this is the key to success--trust in a safe and challenging and FUN learning environment wheee mistakes are treated as paramount to learning, not as hindrances.

Certified Teacher Looking To Help Others As A Tutor

I have a wide variety of educational experience and have recently crossed over into the realm of education as a Special Education/At-Risk teacher with the Edgerton School District. My current position has me utilizing differentiated instruction and modification techniques with nearly 50 students throughout the day which will enhance my ability to tutor others who need help. My particular areas of expertise are Social Studies, Spanish, English and ASVAB/GED test prep. I am weaker in Math and Science.

I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning (children generate knowledge and meaning from their experiences). I am available to help your child find academic success in any area of learning. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible. I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives. A few good educators can make a world of difference in a child's education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am best in a one-on-one environment and can acclimate to most personalities. I love learning and care very much about passing that on. I attempt to find each student's "barrier" to learning and customize my approach. I am especially good in the math subjects.
With my undergraduate degree in hand I taught Marketing and Sales at Whiteside Area Vocational Center in Sterling, IL, for eight years. I left teaching to enter the corporate world working for several companies, i.e., National Manufacturing Company in Sterling, Amerock Corporation in Rockford, and Greenlee-Textron in Rockford. I moved from a product manager to national account manager. Following my corporate experience I returned to tutoring students, K-12, in Princeton, IL, in math up through geometry, and specializing in tutoring students who could not go to school either due to an accident or illness.

Teaching is my passion and my life. There is no other career that I would desire to teach. I am a very firm, but fair teacher. My teaching styles vary depending on the lesson being taught. More About This Tutor...

In 2005 I obtained a degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish and in 2009 obtained a masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. I have worked with children of normal intelligence and what cognitive disabilities. Although my degrees are not directly related to math, I use mathmatical concepts daily. I bring to the table the ability to use math terms in a day to day experience, rather than just in a classroom setting.
I believe that all children can learn, and when a child has difficulty grasping a concept, the teacher must change their technique. I have used a variety of methods when working with children. Manipulatives, flash cards ,games and stimulus equivalence training are just a few. I also believe that a child that needs extra help with a subject should not feel like they are being punished. A teaching session should not just help a person learn a concept, but help ... read more
