My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I've mentored six gifted students in math in the Lincoln Public Schools. The students were in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and most of them were a year or two ahead in math.

I've been a Mentor with Lincoln Public Schools for over a year. Mentors function as one-on-one teachers for gifted students in an area of their strength. I've taught math to elementary school students (many of whom were in middle-school level math) and am also qualified as a Chinese mentor for all levels and a Social Studies mentor. I also work at the Kumon Math and Reading Center and primarily assist young students who are learning to read. In the past I have assisted Chinese students preparing for the SAT and TOEFL, and also tutored numerous subjects for high school students.
I try to find out what a student is interested in and incorporate that. When I was 5 years old I learned sign Language, I had a classmate who was deaf and I fell in love with the language. After taking one and a half years of guitar training, I believe that I can offer my students with the materials they need to play their favorite songs with the chords and strumming, as well as learning and coming up with new solos based on the theories that I teach them.
I first teach my student what the strings are in standard tuning, letting them know what they're playing on. And then I'll teach them the basic chords. The next step of the teach program is to teach them notes as well as other chords. After they get the chords and the notes progression, I'll teach them the scales and solos.
