A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience being an English tutor to four different families during my time abroad in Barcelona. My students varied in age, the youngest being seven and the oldest being 13. This experience allowed me to better understand students at all different levels and what teaching methods children at different ages better respond to. I also have experience using my passion for art as tools of learning. I have experience teaching drawing and painting as tools of stress relief and of memorization. I also tend to encourage students to read and help to kickstart their overall motivation for learning and discovering by tapping in to their creative as well as academic sides.

A Little Bit About Me...

"A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary" I think that this quote about teaching, in a way, reflects my idea on what teaching is all about. One can be a good teacher, whose characteristics encompass good knowledge of the subject matter, understanding the needs of your students, and the ability to apply this knowledge to students' needs. However, an effective teacher does not only pass knowledge on to her students, but makes herself gradually unnecessary: her learners become independent learners as they progress through a course. As a teacher, I always try to be effective in this sense - I foster independence in my students. At the same time, I strive for excellence which will eventually make me a better teacher. Hate busywork? Me too! Why not make it MATTER?!

I began my teaching career even before graduating High School. I started volunteering my time with homework help and study skills at the local Boys and Girls Club when I was 16 followed by teaching Remedial English to a small group of ELL students at a partnering elementary school. During college, I continued my passion by joining an organization that teaches life and social skills to developmentally delayed young adults. After graduating from SFSU, I persued my TEFL certification which allowed me to live and teach in China for 6 months, while developing fun an innovative curriculum that allowed young students to start acquiring English skills from scratchet.
