Latin is one of my top subjects! I have four semesters of college Latin and a B.A. in Classics.

I am someone who understands that not all children learn effectively the same way. I am someone who will sit down with my student and ask them questions regarding how they learn and how they do not learn. Sometimes a student will not know how they learn effectively but they will know what does not work for them. From there I try to tailor a program to suit that student. As a tutor you are able to have that one on one time and you can design your instructions for a specific student therefore making your teaching more effective.
While pursuing a double degree from the University at Buffalo and working part-time, I worked in peer tutoring groups for Latin and writing. I have experience proof reading papers and correcting grammar. My four semesters of college Latin have given me a understanding of English language origins and modern usages. I offer students a patient listening ear so I can encourage their strengths and understand their weaknesses. Often by asking questions, doing practice problems and just listing to the student's logic, I can tweak their thought process so they better understand the material. I am so proud of a student who begins to understand something they thought was too difficult. If a student has a willingness to learn I can share techniques to make learning easier. I help students develop a step-by-step process they can apply to each type of problem. I find that using charts and tables can help to organize complex problems. Even a wrong answer often gets partial credit if the work shown is neat and the teacher can follow the student's logic.
I am committed to achieving excellence in education and helping others to do so too. For four years I tutored Accounting, Statistics and other college math ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and helping children learn. My philosophy is that you have to make this information that your children are learning relatable to what they are going through. If you do this children will enjoy learning. I feel that it is also to make sure that you are helping children learn in a fun, yet productive environment.

Teaching is a skill that requires flexibility. As a college student, I have tried many different studying techniques and have succeeded in finding one suitable for my style. Teaching requires different styles and techniques until one is successful. I have observed that the "fun facts" taught by professors are what are most remember able. I am more than happy to try different teaching skills until one is suitable. I work well with communicating the subjects truly enjoy when a student learns. I have used tutors as an outlet for help in the past and I hope to be able to assist in obtaining an enhanced education.

I have a very strong passion for learning and teaching various topics within Biology, such as studying genetics, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, basic chemistry and basic math. I obtained a B.S. in Biology, cum laude at Allegheny College and will have the M.A. in Biochemistry from SUNY at Buffalo on 06/01/11. Because I have this strong passion I like to share it in hopes whoever I can teach can also appreciate it. In college, I was a reading tutor for kids from K-5 grades. As it was primarily for reading. Also within college, I found myself helping my friends understand the material.
