My comments on tutoring Sociology : I've taken many Sociology courses as part of the Criminology degree requirements.

I tutored one of the students in my High School in his Algebra class. During the course of the tutoring, his grades on his test progressively increased. His final grade in his class was a "B." While attending college, I applied to become a Peer Tutor at Capital University. I was offered a position as part of the tutoring staff, and over the course of the two years in which I worked as a Peer Tutor, I helped a lot of Undergraduate students in all of the courses that I felt the most comfortable in, including Business Calculus, Calculus for the Biological Sciences, Geometry, Trigonometry, etc. I had many regular students during the course of the two years in which I worked as a tutor. I enjoyed helping them, and they seemed to understand the course material better over the course of the semester. I loved helping all the different students, too.

I was hired on the spot and then continued with education by obtaining a masters degree in special education in Tempe Arizona. In Arizona I was assigned as an inclusion teacher for 9, 10 11th grade English. I had to accommodate diverse learners and plan instruction. I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable. Many of the students/adults that I have worked with have a learning disability of some sort, but I feel that I learn from each student just as much as they are learning from me. I enjoy teaching and couldn't see myself doing much else.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I enjoy the learning environment and have been in one for 16 years, I have learned much about it. Everyone learns differently, and I feel that it is important to understand the student's easiest way to learn in order to proceed. I believe offering students the chance to use their imagination and to encourage creativity is the best approach to education. Whether it is through mental imaging or hands-on learning, each individual student deserves a chance at better education.
I am a recent college graduate and I am looking for employment within my field. I have two years experience tutoring an elementary student. I worked with a student in second grade and tutored her in both Math and English. Because her mother and I communicated regularly, she was able to tell me of improvements and areas of subjects that needed more attention. I am very enthusiastic about being able to w ... read more

During my years at The Ohio State University, I earned a B.A. in Psychology, and completed a year and a half of Masters work in Social Work. After completing my B.A., I was hired as a professional tutor. I tutored college students in various subjects including English and essay writing, Psychology, Reading, some Spanish, and Social Studies.
I love working with children, and feel that I can relate to them because I struggled in my early school years. I feel it's important to identify each child's learning style, and use that knowledge to help them discover the potential that they each hold. I feel it's extremely important to help them build their confidence, because anxiety only distracts them from the learning process. Finally, I try to make learning fun, by identifying each child's main intersts.
