I have been doing something in music for 30 years. I have a B.A in music from Wright State University which I obtained in 2003. I also have 6 years of private music instruction on various instruments. I have played in several different groups consisting of a wide range of music. I have classical training but I also know how to teach rock, pop, jazz and metal on certain instruments

I began teaching piano in 1975, the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I continued to teach through college. As a teacher, I have been able to utilize both my BME (Bachelor of Music Education) and my Bachelor and subsequent Masters Degrees in Music Therapy to support my students wide range of learning needs. I have also taken additional classes in psychology and classes that dealt with learning disabilities. I believe that I can effectively utilize these skills as a tutor.
I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I teach children and adults according to the wishes of the learner. I love teaching music theory and aural skills; however, I also love to make people discover learning music at their own pace and developments. For example, my husband learns to play certain music that I picked up by ear on the piano which he chose to learn. I teach him how to play something and he eventually learns to dictate it on sheet paper from learning it. He is getting valuable musical knowledge from this, which is coming out in the form of pitch and dictation.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught in the inner city of Pittsburgh as reading tutor. In Columbus I taught music, reading, special education, and all other subjects from Preschool through high school. I tutored Whitehall high school students in their homes. I enjoyed teaching almost every day in different school districts for years. I have a masters degree in school counseling which has enabled me to understand the needs of most students.
My goal is to help each child learn as much as possible but at the same time enjoy learning. Children need lots of love and attention. I rely on God's wisdom and strength every day because each day is a new experience or a new situation. I use games to help students learn.
