My comments on tutoring Elementary : I have taught elementary grades for over 15 years.

I have taught "students" from age 3 to age 73. Most of my experience has been in elementary classroom situations, but I have tutored individual students, taught computer skills to business classes and senior citizens, as well as business technology classes in a community college. I am also a co-founder of a small non-graded school which has now existed for over 40 years and is recognized as an established school by the state of Ohio. I enjoy teaching and enriching the lives of those with whom I have the privilege of working.
My teaching style is to engage the student as much as possible and to utilize as many senses as possible. I will often use a "game" to practice a skill. When teaching a skill, my emphasis is understanding "why" something is done a particular way rather than stressing straight memorization.

My teaching style is different from most tutors. I like to tutor like a teacher. I give out study guides, quizzes, tests, checkpoints, and some small projects. I keep track of the students grade. I do not provide supplies. I require the student to have their coloring supplies, scissors, and other basic supplies. I let the parent have the say in what we learn about. I need to know what the child is learning about and what they need help with. I do need my clients to set up appointments in advanced so i may plan my schedule. I received my BS degree with the intent of gaining a MA in teaching. While I was obtaining my MA, I performed as a substitute teacher in several school districts. I had access to 2 long-term teaching positions. The first was for high school special education in history and the second was for 8th grade language arts.
