My comments on tutoring Geometry : Expert - have done PhD level work in mathematics

My teaching style is based loosely on that of my major college math professer (and head of the department), which was originated at the University of Texas by his thesis advisor and another colleague. It is basically the Socratic method as applied to teaching mathematics, to try to draw the student out and get him or her to think on their own. I am for understanding, not regurgitating a bunch of facts, which anyone can mindlessly do. The object is to be able to think and analyze on your own.

Geometry is one of my top subjects! I have my bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering so complicated math is my favorite. I love to teach it and share my tricks of solving with students. I use a Socratic method whereby the student is encouraged to think about the math problem and generate suggestions about how to characterize it. Once the student's mind has been stretched a bit, I begin adding hints that direct the student's thought process in the direction of the solution.
