My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : I have my bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering so complicated math is my favorite. I use a Socratic method whereby the student is encouraged to think about the math problem and generate suggestions about how to characterize it. Once the student's mind has been stretched a bit, I begin adding hints that direct the student's thought process in the direction of the solution.
