I benefited from the liberal arts education I received from the University of Puget Sound, which offered a diverse selection of classes and an exploratory environment in which to pursue my studies. For two years, I studied Chemistry and Biology while also taking classes in the Humanities. I eventually majored in International Political Economy and obtained minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies. During my undergraduate years, I studied in Oaxaca, Mexico and received a grant for summer research. Upon graduation I spent a year doing anthropology research in Peru on a Fulbright grant, while also becoming fluent in Spanish and learning a third language, Quechua.

I have always seen teaching as a matter of reigniting a natural curiosity which all students have, and directing it toward an academic subject. My priority as a tutor is to help students feel confident about their own ability to master the material. For each student this requires a different approach, so I try various methods of teaching and of working on tasks with each student, until we find one that works for him or her. My teaching style is simple. In my classroom, I am the teacher, the gate keeper and the executioner. This is premised by my belief in the contingency theory, tempered in some ways that an open, honest and frank discussion in the class is a vital and productive way to educate.
I am professional, and would love to apply my ideas in innovation regarding the education environment, duration and implementation.
