I like working one-on-one with students, helping them to identify what they already know about a subject or topic and then logically building that up, step-by-step, into what they need to know. Finding a way to explain a concept in terms each individual can understand is the challenge. When students have difficulty in a class, it is often because the textbook doesn't speak to them and the teacher doesn't have time to explain it individually to each and every student. By far, the biggest issue I have found with students with difficulty learning mathematics or the sciences is that there is a lack of motivation to learn, primarily because they do not understand the implications of the knowledge in front of them. Because I have studied physics, mathematics, and completed the pre-medicine curriculum at my university, I am brimming with knowledge of these applications. Once my students have gained an understand of all the cool stuff we can do with knowledge in these avenues, they tend to absorb concepts much more readily.
