My comments on tutoring Composition : I enjoy writing and the process involved and I would love the opportunity to help others see how much fun it can be to write and see your end product. I'm also a very good writer and I'm skilled at proofreading papers and essays and improving them - ranging from content and sentence structure to simple grammar mistakes.

I have been tutoring students for about 5 years. I started when I was a junior in high school. My first experiences tutoring were through the National Honor Society. I volunteered after school once or twice per week and I tutored mainly ESL students in Math and English. My senior year of high school and throughout the time I was in college, I tutored a high school student who had educational and developmental deficits. He needed help in all of his core classes from 8th grade through 12th grade. I tutored him in Pre-Algebra through Algebra II, History, Science, and English. I also tutored at Columbia Heights High School for 6 months, conducting tutorials for groups of 6-7 students. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA in English and a Master's and Ph.D. in German (Germanic Linguistics). I have taught English literature as a substitute in junior and senior high schools, college level German, linguistics, English reading and writing and English as a Second language. I have taught and tutored children and adult learners. My teaching experience has been in Germany, California and Minnesota. I also tutored ACT/SAT in Minnesota.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages, individually or in groups. I find the Socratic method most useful, and with children this translates into making the subject (i.e. German grammar) seem like a puzzle that, with some effort, can be solved. I think students are best served when they can discover these answers for themselves.

After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district. I've been told I have a great capacity for making complex ideas more understandable. This is why students seeking Math help at my University would ask for me specifically, I can take a complicated concept and explain it in a way that makes it seem much simpler, and when one approach doesn't work, I go again from a different direction.
