Exciting and effective tutoring available!

I am able to effectively teach a group of kids, and I am also comfortable with the one on one teaching style. Regardless of the environment, I know how to make sure the needs of every student is met.
I have always had the ability to effectively teach my family, peers, and other classmates. However, I recently decided to get into the field of tutoring. My very first session, I fell in love with it. I am understanding that each student has different needs, different strengths and weaknesses. It is my job to reward those strengths, figure out those weaknesses and strengthen them. I am a young lady myself, but I know that the youth is our future. If I am able to have an impact on at least one student and their educational endeavors, I am pleased. Education is the key that will unlock the doors to the future of our youth.

Credentialed Elementary Teacher Able to Tutor K-12

I am a credentialed elementary teacher, but have experience tutoring K-12, both in person and virtually. I began tutoring virtually starting in mid 2019 and refined my skills during the pandemic when everything became virtual. I also currently teach 3rd grade in California and participate regularly in plenty of professional development, including post graduate courses. This is my 6th year teaching in the classroom, but my umpteenth year working with children in a school setting.
I use a comprehensive homeschool curriculum with progress monitoring reports, and my lessons are interactive and designed to meet the needs of each student. I try to have fun and make it relevant to their own experience, and I ensure that every student feels included and welcomed. In the classroom, my biggest strengths are levels of engagement and behavior management utilizing SEL methods.

My diverse educational and professional background has enabled me to be able to apply very practical applications to seemingly comlex mathmatical learning steps. As a manager/owner of several small businesses over my career, I have had to help develop employees into more productive workers by helping them with basic educational tools and life skills. My journalism experience, coupled with a strong business acumen and a Certified Financial Planner designation affords me a vast tool kit from which relate to my students.
I enjoy the challenge of teaching and coaching. Finding a level of communication, exploring the deficiency and then applying practical examples to improve the internal understanding of the concepts is my approach to one on one tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

The foundation of my philosophical approach to teaching is that every student can learn. With that theory in mind, practice in the field of teaching has also shown me that actual acquisition of knowledge is a direct function of teacher effectiveness, student motivation, and student support. My style of teaching can best be described as student-centered. Every student learns differently. It is the teacher's responsibility to: 1. Adapt curriculum and lesson planning to the individual needs of all students; 2. Use student assessment as a guide to assessing teacher effectiveness; and 3. Evaluate teaching methods to find ways to re-teach the content.
I hold a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, TESOL Certificate, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, Elementary Education. I have taught elementary, university composition, and working adult students. I have also particip ... read more

I believe that each child is an empty page in a book. Teachers must provide information to help fill up that page. It is my job to see that each child reaches their true potential. I realize that each child learns in different ways. I bring science and math to life by letting students explore different approaches to solving an equation or science mystry. There may be only one correct answer but there are many ways to find it. I am not a person who thinks that textbooks have all the answers or show the only way to look at things. I want my students to take chances, make mistakes (that is the only way you really learn) and get messy. If you are looking for a tutor who thinks out side of the box then I am the tutor for you.

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended private school throughout high school, and benefitted from a smaller group environment and a more focused academic career. When entering college, I enjoyed all areas of academics, especially English and Psychology and have always had a high motivation for success. I have earned a BS in Social Science and will have completed my MA in Teaching in February 2011. I have a passion for working with both children and teenagers and have tutored for the last 3 years mainly in writing and English, but also elementary Mathematics.
I love to teach with all my heart. I enjoy teaching children, teenagers, and adults and having the feeling that they were able to learn something new. Plato once stated, “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life.” If children start out with a solid education, it sets them on a course for success. A Little Bit About Me...

Kids need to feel comfortable and safe with the person who is working with them in order to relax and just try. I start where the student is and help move forward form there. I will repeat, show, explain in different ways, and validate the student's progress as many times as it takes. I can recognize the teaching moments, and I identify the missing pieces that will turn the light on for the key concepts. I love working with all ages, including adult learners and persons with disabilities.

A Little Bit About Me...

I use Socratic questioning strategies and experiential learning to ensure that students understand why a concept applies rather than just memorizing formulas. I use manipulatives and visual aids to ensure that multiple modalities are integrated. I work with the whole student as a person, identifying how the student learns and teaching the student how to adapt various teaching styles to his/her learning style.
I have 9 years of experience teaching high school; all courses - AP Calculus, pre-calculus, algebra 2, geometry, algebra, pre-algebra (including special needs and english learners), and practical applications. Over the last 20 years, I have tutored students in all of the above subjects as well as elementary math concepts, writing strategies, and reading recovery. I am NCLB certified and focused on the defined national & state standards of each subject.

I am a California State University, Los Angeles graduate, holding a BA in English, with a specific focus on clasroom teaching. Throughout high school and college, I was driven to assist my peers, using my knowledge to ensure that they understood the subject matter and would succeed in any academic endeavors. As a nanny, I have several years experience teaching small children to read. I am also well versed in theatre arts, dance, and world history.
I believe that an open dialogue is a teacher's most needed resource. Any child needs to feel as though he or she can express concerns or apprehensions without the fear of feeling embarrassed or stupid. I truly believe that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Teaching should, of course, relay necessary information, but it should also foster a student's drive to succeed, as well as the knowledge that any goal can be reached through ... read more

I taught Earth and Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Grammar, Vocabulary, English Composition, British and American Literature, Geography, American and World History, Ethics, Social Studies, Government, Sign Language, and Bible. Studying French from 3rd grade through college back East and having friends who are French here in California has allowed me to remember the basics for the last thirty years.

I am patient, considerate, and kind, treating each child as I like to be treated. I try to build on past experiences and knowledge so the child can relate what is being taught to his or her world, making it relevant to the here and now. A Little Bit About Me...

I am dedicated to instilling knowledge and providing the means, or tools, to acquire knowledge. My expertise lies in the ability to individualize learning using the learning modality that best suits each student. I discover what hinders one's academic progress and correct it filling the gaps in an individual's education. All students can learn. It is my duty to discover how and use their abilities to achieve. All students must experience success; they cannot achieve it if they do not know what it is and what it feels like. My students succeed.
My greatest achievement is to have been inducted into "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" for four years by former junior high school students. Students in the top 15% of their high school graduating class are allowed the priviledge of nominating one teacher who has made the greatest difference in their lives.
