I teach at a University full time. My experience ranges from traditional students, to special education students, and many non-traditional students (such as those adult students working full time and raising families). I enjoy making science accessible to everyone because the subject is truly fun! I prefer to teach with open dialogue. I use note-cards and mnemonics. I'm also fond of repetition (which will allow the student to obviously retain the information) and often do reviews at the end of a session to further examine what said student is struggling with. I allow students to discover answers by themselves by prompting them with questions. This hands off technique reflects the minimalist philosophy of the writing center I worked for, and I have found it is a far more effective way to help students grasp concepts which will globally make their writing better.
