I graduated from Jefferson High School in the spring of 2012. I now attend Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne. I have two younger siblings and 4 younger step-siblings that I have helped with their homework, or helped them better understand material assigned to them. Their ages range from 8-17. I know how to explain certain subjects in multiple ways to ensure that eventually the student will understand the material. I am very patient, and I understand that some people learn at slower rates than others. I am majoring in nursing, though I considered teaching English before making this decision. With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". The youngest, my brother, in which we are both diagnosed with ADHD, is amazing. My teaching style depends on the student. It takes some time to identify what methods work best on the individual. In most cases, the student just needs a clearer explanation than his/her book or instructor is providing. Also, I like to create visual examples that make an abstract concept into something more practical. A thorough explanation coupled with examples and practice, practice, practice usually prove to help tremendously. It's also important to listen to your student and to constantly test his/her knowledge of concepts as we progress.
