A Little Bit About Me...

I am a person who believes that all children have unlimited potential. Sometimes they just need someone to believe in them, especially when they don't believe or stop believing in themselves. I know that I was meant to work with children and make a positive difference in their lives. I am smart, understanding, and very down to earth. I believe that teachers, counselors, parents, peers, and family are the most important influences in a child's life. I also believe that it is the responsibility of everyone in this world to teach children how to be honest, hard-working, and to always look at things from an empathetic point of view. I live by this philosophy, and look forward to helping children achieve their goals in life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as a tutor in my college's writing center and as a teaching assistant in major course requirements. I will graduate at the end of this month with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English, having completed more than 90 credit hours in literature studies and 18 credit hours of creative writing. I am a recipient of the Haussner Endowed Writing Award and have presented my work at the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society annual convention (2010 & 2011) and my college's Student Research Day. I not only have studied writing and literature and taught it, but I love it. I greatly enjoy reading and writing and like to impart that love on my students.
Because students learn in different ways, a teacher must understand, appreciate, and adapt various teaching styles. Learning cannot become synonymous with boredom, and I strive to help keep my students engaged. I understand th ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My teaching philosophy centers first, and foremost, on the task at hand: educating every student I service. It appears that for the sake of the school’s overall achievement level on state tests, students that require critical and extensive attention are being ignored for lack of time. Because it is assumed that these students will not pass the test regardless of the amount of effort invested in them, very little is invested in them and they are left far behind. These students will not only fail the test, but will establish the concept that no cares one-way or the other. I believe every student has a talent for something. It may be difficult to discover what talent a child possesses, but this challenge is important and rewarding. As an educator, I believe we must show every child, regardless of scholastic aptitude, that their existence matters to society, and that they can positivel ... read more

My teaching style is to have a set of problems made up for the students to observe as examples to help understand certain chapters. I will assign additional problems if needed and focus on the subject matter that is the hardest for the individual to understand.
I have taken statistics and gotten an A in the course and still have all course materials to give a general overview of statistics and how to use SPSS. I am knowledgeable on the software and would be able to answer questions on statistics because of how well I did and how I used to help others who struggled with the class.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. Finally, active learning demands that the students find the answers instead of being told them. This will benefit them greatly once they join the work force.

Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. If they are unfocused and miss a part of what is instructed, they will be confused throughout the whole process. It helps to be patient with the educating process. These educators who take the time to make sure everything is understood make a huge difference in each student.

My teaching style is one that allows the students to ask any pertinent question about the subject at hand. By allowing the students to do this, it allows me to see what might be giving them a hard time with the learning. Thus, I would be able to ask pertinent questions, that will allow me to show different ways around the troublesome areas, while giving the students a new way to learn the necessary material.

While doing this, I was able to assimilate my real life working experience, into the classroom. I have since obtained a second certification in Special Education. This was after obtaining my Master's in 2007. I believe the combination of these teaching areas, would allow me to help those students, who need dif ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a strong background in mathematics because I have earned a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics. I have always been extremely dedicated to my education; I have won numerous awards for academic excellence. During my time as an undergrad, I wrote many mathematical proofs and submitted them to college mathematics journals. I also have experience doing research in robotics. For the previous two years, I have tutored students in calculus, linear algebra, and algorithms. I was also a lab assistant who helped students with Java programming assignments.
My approach to teaching students mathematics is to first ensure they understand the basics. In my experience, students typically have trouble learning new material because they have not mastered the previous material, which is typically a prerequisite to understanding the new material. I believe with enough time spent on the basics ... read more
