I have a BA in psychology and have worked for 12 years in the mental health field. I am currently working on getting my Elem. Ed teaching license and have completed all the coursework and have completed my pre-clinicals. I am scheduled to do my student teaching this September in a second grade classroom at Taylors Falls Elementary school. As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals across countless backgrounds and understand the idea of each student needing to hear things in their own terms. I believe that each child has their own special style of learning in which they succeed the best at. When I tutor students I take the time to get to know each student on an individual basis and as a unique person. I make it a priority to determine their learning style and use that to implement a plan. I try and understand the reason they are having problems in their studies and then execute a plan in which they can succeed. I create study guides, review questions, and sample test questions for the students as well. My teaching style is such that students are taken and made active learners and not just as recipients of knowledge. Students have to own their learning. Students are encouraged to come up with the answers by leading them toward the answer and this involves using past experiences and knowledge leart earler instead of being given the answers. Collaborative learning is encouraged in my classes, because I believe that students can learn from each other.
I have two BS degrees, one in physics and Education and a masters degree in Physics. I am also a licensed teacher, teaching Physics and Chemistry, and three-time variance to teach Math. My 11 year experience in teaching in public, Alternative high and charter schools has prepared me for this job.
