My comments on tutoring Math : Teach and Tutor all grade levels

I have worked as a private tutor for Achievement Plus Tutoring Company in the Mathematical field for 10 years on a part-time basis working to inspire students to achieve their best. Also, I had the privilege to work for CLUBZ as a Math tutor in the No Child Left Behind program, specifically in the Portsmouth school district for approximately twelve months. I have established my own math tutoring business working in all levels of math areas to help kids and adults overcome various phases of arithmetic difficulties since 1990. I have also worked as a math tutor volunteering at my local Church and assisting students with homework assignments to help make a difference in their lives. I have an excellent track record and experience in motivating students to reach their highest expectations and academic goals in the mathematical field.

Don't risk your grade/money on mere paper qualifications

You will see many ads by former or current professors trying to make a buck on the side. They are terrible tutors - they spent their whole careers having students beg them for a better grade. I have spent my whole life learning how to explain the most complex concepts to absolutely anybody. You will also see many people touting a related professional position as qualification. Many of them got their positions through nepotism and cheating to get paper qualifications (Some are my former clients) and neither have a good understanding of the material nor do they explain things well. I have run this business catering to client's needs for over a decade now. My rates are due to supply and demand - I have a busy schedule full of repeat customers and their referrals. I have many paper qualifications as well, but they honestly don't tell you much. Help with a particular program also depe ... read more

Math is one of my top subjects!

I double-majored in biology in chemistry in undergrad, so the field of science and medicine is my first love and my strength. I have also received a Masters of Public Health Degree in Epidemiology, and have since completed my 2nd year of medical school. I have always had a strong affinity for math and english as well. I have a published thesis paper that was constructed and presented as required for my masters curriculum. I have been tutoring since I was in high school, and have tutored elementary to college level courses.
I have a relaxed, stress-free teaching style, while staying on task and topic. I make sure the pupils really understand the material by breaking things down to the basics, and reviewing the foundations. After reviewing and application of the concepts, I have my students switch roles and "teach" me the material. I believe if you can explain the material to someone ... read more

In high school I went up to A.P. Spanish and would often tutor or help my classmates and younger students in lower level Spanish. I also tutored one young man in Great Bridge until he just lost interest and his mother didn't want to pay for tutoring for a class he didn't like. I also have a four year old daughter to whom I speak Spanish to and have taught basic Spanish to. I currently hold a BA in Spanish with a minor in Secondary Education. Through my experience at O.D.U. I have learned a great deal about Spanish culture, literature, and about the technical aspect of the language (I took a phonetics and introduction to linguistics course).
I have learned a great deal about the various learning and teaching styles. I understand that some students learn better with hands-on instruction, while others are more auditory or visual learners. I truly have a passion for spreading my l ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have the unusual ability to teach in a way that each individual can relate to and on a level that they can each understand. I feel that all people can learn given the right circumstances and a teacher that understands the way that person is able to learn. Learning is a process and I approach teaching in a logical step by step fashion by which my students can relate.
As a Sociology major and an accounting student at Longwood University, I was able to gain an understanding in a variety of areas from classes in business, sociology, anthropology, psychology, english, math and the sciences. I have excelled in writing financial as well as literary reports. I tutored many of my classmates while I was in college and was afforded the opportunity to substitute teach sociology when my professors were out due to illness or personal reasons. In my career I have trained many of my employe ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I began working in the field of education nearly 4 years ago. I began to substitute and found that I enjoyed working with high school aged students. I was always great in math so that became my subject of choice. I worked hard to develop lessons that would be both challenging and interesting for the students. After my first year as a long-term Algebra I substitute teacher I knew that I had found my life’s calling. I had a passion for teaching and my career as an educator was truly beginning to evolve. I changed my major in graduate school to Math Education. I spent my summers working with youth at various academic summer programs and performing private tutoring to over a dozen children over the course of 4 years.
My style of teaching is centered around three basic concepts. Building relationships with students, making the information something they can relate to, and finally provid ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate of UVa-Wise in Accounting with a minor in Economics. During my last year, I frequently tutored underclassman with a high degree of success. My achievements were not only successful at my school, but I have competed at the national level by consistently placing at state with the FBLA-PBL for my major and minor.
My approach is visual, auditory, and hands-on. I am very patient, and understanding. My primary area of tutoring is math, and I understand that math is a very time oriented subject. My goal is to hopefully show people the good side of numbers, and how every aspect of life is associated through it. I love what I learned in school, and I hope it translates into my student's success.

A Little Bit About Me...

In February 1996 I started tutoring remedial math and accounting in the TCC, Virginia Beach Campus, tutor lab. As I took more courses, the subjects I tutored grew. When I transferred to Virginia Wesleyan I joined their tutor lab an continued tutoring math and business classes. Since I graduated in 2000 with my business degree I have taken several math classes at TCC, the highest being Calculus IV. In that time, I have tutored family, friends, fellow students (as I pursued higher math classes) and coworkers, usually working for the fun of math and to help out friends. Over the last two years I have tutored as a part time job.
I like teaching people of various ages because I can relate to most anyone. Teaching math is all about wording the problem, theorem, technique, etc into words and terms that a student can understand. In most cases, I am able to do that for my students.

I have over 3 years of teaching experience with Norfolk Public Schools as a Reading Teacher teaching regular education and special education students. I have over 1 year of tutoring experience working with students in small groups and on a one-on-one basis.
My teaching style includes utilizing tactile kinesthetic activities allowing students to learn using a hands-on experience while learning. Using manipulatives is also a tool used in my teaching process where students are able to sit at their seat, yet use fun arts and crafts so they can have a visual with their activities.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am very enthusiastic about language learning, because I know understanding and utilizing language has the ability to influence learning across all subject matter. I am patient and methodical in analyzing the student's learning styles in order to identify the most effective and efficient presentation of the material. However, I am also confident that learning styles are co-dependent on teaching styles; therefore, I will not hesitate to introduce as many teaching methods as I see appropriate.
By earning a duel BA in Spanish and Linguistics and a MA in Applied Linguistics, I have spent an extensive amount of time researching teaching methods and learning styles pertaining to first and second language acquisition. Understanding these learning styles allows me to relate to a wide range of students and discover what works best on an individual basis. I have applied these skills as ... read more
