A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored in Beginning Algebra while I was in college. As a senior to complete my general education requirements, I needed a 3 hour math course. In return for tutoring, the department head allowed me to take the intermediate algebra class after I had completed College Algebra. A Little Bit About Me...

I came to teaching as a second career when I realized I was not happy in local politics. I earned a degree in Secondary Education with English certification grades 5-12. I have taught in rural as well as urban schools and schools in between. I have a strong command of grammar and reading comprehension skills. I have lead students in debate teams as well.
I am very straightforward in my style. I really enjoy doing things my way and seeing how the student responds. If the response is not positive then I modify and try again until we get it right. I am very much an auditory person myself so I am very verbal and love to talk things through.

Through all of my work related experience, teaching has been the one thing that I loved and felt completely comfortable doing. I believe that every child can learn, but that they often need individual attention and a variety of strategies and techniques used in order to find the one that fits. My #1 goal is to help each of my students reach his or her ultimate academic potential. Every student has the ability to succeed academically. I believe that children learn best when concepts can be taught/explained to them in their own terms.
