I am a homeschool mother of four, including two dyslexic students that I have been individually tutoring for four years using the Barton Reading & Spelling System. Prior to that I taught third grade in the public school system for three years. I've always believed that children learn by doing. I would rather have my students get real hands-on experience because concepts can be better attained and understood if children get real experience with it. I also believe that children learn differently from one another and a teacher should be able to accommodate the different learning styles of her or his students. One method may not work for a student, so I feel that it is the teacher's responsibility to make sure each student reaches their full potential by finding ways that will work for her/his students and then incorporate these differences in the classroom.
