I have tutored in Reading for elementary students. I have also taught Psychology for over four years at two community colleges. I taught many students with diverse backgrounds. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. My vocabulary, spelling and reading skills are very strong. I have utilized this in different jobs and volunteer positions I have held. I taught anger management classes at a Rehabilitation Facility for women. I also taught pre-k at the elementary school near Fort Hood, Texas, while stationed there. I have been with the military community as a Navy child, an Army Captain in the Reserves and an Army Spouse. After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.

My comments on tutoring Reading : Is my best subject and I teach it phonetically. I believe that sounding out the words is the easiest way for comprehension. Certain rules must be applied though for words that sound the same.
