I've been tutoring since high schools in a wide range of subjects, such as latin, algebra II, and biology. The skills you use to teach yourself the material can be directly applied to someone else, especially when you find something does not click at first. I have a number of mnemonics for helping my tutees retain the material they've spent time learning. In college I don't tutor professionally because of time constraints, but I help other students understand problems they may be having difficulty with. UNR Grad and Experienced University Tutor working toward CPA

Honestly, not sure how to answer this. I think the entire benefit of working with a private tutor is that the tutor is able to change and adapt to complement the student. I wouldn't think to walk into a room and presume to know where the student is struggling or how best to help him. What I do consistently is to focus on basics and use colors, organization and logic to solve problems. Too often, people memorize the steps without understanding where they come from, this leaves them high and dry if theres any chance of test anxiety or a "curveball" question.

For Science and Math I employ an inquiry-based method of teaching/exploration. This allows for more meaningful learning and gives the student the opportunity to learn on his or her own before being given instruction by the teacher. This method is aligned with the STEM initiative in the United States. For Language Arts, reading, and Spanish, I teach by individualizing instruction to each child, allowing for meaning-making and communication rather than simply rote learning of facts and vocabulary. Versatile Hands-on Tutor for all Age ranges

I prefer hands on teaching, but I like to remain flexible to the individuals learning style. Depending on the topics covered, we read, write, and do hands-on activities to keep the brain stimulated. Sometimes if applicable, and with parental consent, we would do art projects and maybe watch an educational film (that the parent has approved of course). For sciences and social studies I really like the idea of field trips, but everything will be permitted by the parental figures first. These field trips usually include going to parks and observing natural habitats, or even visiting the local museums. We can usually negotiate a small group trip which makes the costs slim to none to have these extra curricular activities.

I continued my studies in chemistry and additional areas of interest, including math, government, and economics. Before graduating I participated in an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at UC Riverside.
