A Little Bit About Me...

For just over a decade I have been involved in some form of peer education or mentoring. As a senior in high school, I tutored students in mathematics and science. As an ACS Certified Chemist, I have been exposed to upper level mathematics, chemistry and physics, but am still required to use writings skills in preparing various reports and papers. The opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant in upper-level chemistry and mathematics was rewarding and reinforcing at the same time. The most important skill I can teach someone is how. I believe in not only helping students to understand the material but instilling in them a joy of learning. I want students to understand how to get to the answers, why the answers are correct and how to do it themselves. This skill boosts self esteem and confidence. I also believe that it is very important to teach study skills and techniques that can be applied to master any subject or exam. Sometimes students get overwhelmed, but one of the most important things a student can learn is how to plan ahead and use their time efficiently. These skills can then be applied to any subject both inside and outside the classroom.
