I began learning Spanish my freshman year of high school and immediately knew that I wanted to teach it as a career. Since then, I have studied abroad twice. My first time was in Merida, Mexico during the Summer of 2010. I spent my Fall 2011 semester in Granada, Spain. I have high fluency (with an OPI score of Intermediate High)as well as cultural experiences in Spanish speaking countries.

I have been fluent in Spanish for more than 30 years. I was a bilingual (Spanish) 4th grade teacher for the last 7 years, as well as an ESL teacher for kindergarten - 6th grades. The last two years I have been a 1st/2nd grade bilingual (Spanish) teacher. Every summer for the many years I either taught summer school or at the local museum.
I am very creative and use that, along with humor and music to keep students interested.

My comments on tutoring Spanish : I have studied Spanish for 6 years now. I am confident in my speaking, listening and writing skills. My reading skills are a little weaker than the rest of my skills. I spent a couple weeks in Spain and Mexico, not studying but certainly using my language skills.

I will be certified to teach K-12. I believe that the earlier one starts learning a language, the easier it will be for them and the quicker they will learn. While I have recently tutored older students, I have observed and helped teach foreign language classes of all ages.
I am originally from Bloomington, Illinois and am studying French and Spanish Education at Illinois State University. I am in my fifth year right now since I have two teaching majors. I will graduate in May 2014. Since my Junior year of high school, I knew that I wanted to teach French. I have had a passion for education since I was a third grade student. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher "when I grew up." I earned a BA in psychology and started a Master's program in elementary education. Due to personal circumstances, however, I was not able to complete the program. I then taught early childhood and continued to volunteer in schools. I now work in the education department at Bradley University.
