If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.

I am currently a Master's student in biology, and while biology is my field, I am also an accomplished writer. I have dedicated my professional life to helping students and young people achieve their potential. In my experience, often times a student’s ability to learn is tied in with their trust of and rapport with the person teaching them. I feel it is important to allow the student to go at his or her “own pace” and not create a frustrating environment where they may feel too pressured. Although the parents may feel frustrated at this point, it is helpful to get their support and encouragement during the tutoring process.
