I try to work with students to find connections between different aspects of the material that we're working on as well as to find connections to other subjects. My comments on tutoring Testing Strategies : Testing should not be stressful. I love to help students learn how to navigate tricky questions, eliminate answers, and make educated guesses.

I have been a teacher for 7 years. I have taught in a small-town private, Christian two-room schoolhouse (K-8); I currently substitute teach for OPS, and have been to all but one school in the district. I have also tutored on and off over the years, both individually and in small groups, both privately and through school district or companies. I enjoy working with students in a smaller setting, especially one or two at a time, and helping them understand concepts and thus succeed in their schoolwork.
The process is just as important as the product. If a student can come up with the correct answer, but he or she has no idea how or why it is correct or how they got it, I feel like their learning is incomplete. Prior to and during my employment with Metropolitan Community College (Between 1998 and 2007) I was a volunteer tutor with non traditional students in the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development ABE/GED program of Metro community college.
I love to see the proverbial light come on and the students eyes widen and they say "OH! I get it!" I've tutored a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. I try to make mathematics fun, like a puzzle to be figured out, and remove the "hard chore" stigma which is generally hard pressed into a students mind by the time I arrive. Getting the student to believe in themselves and believe mathematics isn't a daunting task it's just difficult until you learn the tricks is my goal. I've notice most students find word problems to be most challenging so I purchased a word problem book to draw examples from which seems to help.
