A Little Bit About Me...

As an university graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned a bachelor degree in accounting, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math, all phases of accounting and financials. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers, along with essays in many various areas of study. During the last ten years I have mentored co-workers in excel, AP/AR along with classmate in mathematics, and cost accounting areas. My previous positions allowed me to work in both rural and urban areas with students and families from various social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
I do my best to determine how each child learns and tailor my instruction accordingly. I realize not everyone processes information in the same way and work hard to vary my teaching methods as needed. If a student is struggling, I seek input from the student and their parents. I believe students should have an active role in their own education and encourage them to give me feedback. Parental involvement is also something that is very valuable.

Prior to and during my employment with Metropolitan Community College (Between 1998 and 2007) I was a volunteer tutor with non traditional students in the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development ABE/GED program of Metro community college.
I love to see the proverbial light come on and the students eyes widen and they say "OH! I get it!" I've tutored a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. I try to make mathematics fun, like a puzzle to be figured out, and remove the "hard chore" stigma which is generally hard pressed into a students mind by the time I arrive. Getting the student to believe in themselves and believe mathematics isn't a daunting task it's just difficult until you learn the tricks is my goal. I've notice most students find word problems to be most challenging so I purchased a word problem book to draw examples from which seems to help.
