A Little Bit About Me...

Columbus Public Schools 1987-1997: During this time period, I taught at the high school, middle school, and elementary level. I then left formal education to stay home with my children. While at home raising my daughters, I did home tutoring from 1989-2006. I then returned to teaching by doing home instruction for Bloom-Carroll (2003-2004)and Fairfield Union (2005). I then did two long-term subbing jobs at Pickerington HS North and Lakeview Junior High School in Pickerington for Intervention Specialists (2006 & 2007). The following school year I was hired by Lancaster Thomas Ewing for a teacher that retired in October to finish out the school year. The following year, I was again hired by Pickerington HS North. Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! In Home or Library only

I truly enjoy working one on one with students. I get to know each student and family so that I can work to meet the individual needs of each student. Then I address those individual needs through personalized lesson plans to teach to the strengths of the whole child. With older students this can also be accomplished ONLINE in selected subjects. I am compassionate, kind, and patient. Especially for the younger students I understand that games and fun activities are important to maintain interest as well as short spans of time on each activity. Even for older students we will move from one activity to another to decrease any boredom.

I strive to make lessons fun and relevant to the student's personal experience. I don't believe that people remember information they find irrelevant or of no use to them, so I feel that by tailoring the lesson to the student, I can reach people more effectively.
