My comments on tutoring Musical : I have been involved with music in some form my entire life. Can you discern music in the random noise of the streets or the rustling of leaves. It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. Through personal and professional experience, I have come to believe that fluency is most quickly achieved through immersion in a language (and instruction in only that language). However, accuracy can be developed and maintained more consistently when a student is able to compare his or her native tongue to the one which he or she is studying - as long as the student has a good understanding of the grammar and other basics of the native language. As a result, I believe in that constant exposure to a language, coupled with conceptual comparison to the native tongue, will foster the best combination of fluency and accuracy.
