Political Science is one of my top subjects! As explained above, I was a political science major in college because I was intrigued with the American Democratic system of government and held such respect for a nation and a government, that with all its pitfalls, would peacefully hand over the powers and trappings of government every 4 years. Every time I watch a Presidential Inauguration I am so proud and moved that with all that is at stake and against our human nature to just take what we want and make excuses later, there is not a single tank or soldier marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to take over the government. For a nation of almost 400 million people to adhere to the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power is inspiring and sacred. Our Founding Fathers got that much right. I would be the perfect tutor of Political Science because of my passion for it, my knowledge of it, and my ability to help people understand the hierarchy of political power, from a mayor or county commissioner to a governor to a congressman and senator to the President of the United States and our nation's political relationship with foreign nations. It is all very complex, and I know I can break it down and explain it to everyone to the point that everyone I tutor will leave my class with a new outlook on the United States of America.

Extremely Interactive and Student-Specific Methods Tailored to each Student's Needs & Goals
I consider myself to be a uniquely seasoned, qualified, and experienced tutor who can adapt to any situation and to any student in order to benefit their education and learning experience. Due to my ability to teach and tutor children and adults of all ages, (in addition to my own near-perfect scores on the SAT & ACT) I was one of the first Instructors hired by PrepExpert, a national company that specializes in preparing students for the SAT, ACT, AP, other exams, and simply for help in regular classes at all levels. This company is so successful and growing so fast because of the unparalleled improvements among students that it recently appeared on ABC's show "Shark Tank," during which Mark Cuban was impressed enough to buy a substantial stake in the company and is a current partner. As an education student, I saw many opportunities in that field. I also saw the diversity of learners, and the need for a diversity in the way education is approached. I began to challenge myself by removing limitations like language, and searching for alternative techniques to teaching students of different cultural, socioeconomic, religious and behavioral backgrounds. Through my efforts, I found that to teach is to learn twice over, and that teaching can be beneficial for the student as well as the educator. I fell in love with education, and will never look back!
Throughout my career as a student, I have always prided myself on the ability to help others learn. When I was a high school student, I was the one other students would come to with questions, and I always gave an answer with confidence. Then I got to college and began to study Biology. I was so amazed at the broad spec ... read more

Teaching has always been a part of my life. My mother was constantly teaching me, along with my siblings and the twenty other children that ran in and out of our home. I believe strongly in a teaching method that provides encouragement and positivism; one that highlights the good before pointing out the mistakes. My goal is to listen to the child and hear what his or her needs are and where he or she is struggling, and then to actively tackle one issue at a time through creative and interactive activities, problem-solving, and constructive criticism. I believe in children, their innocence, their carefree energy and endless intelligent ideas and innovations. My ultimate goal in life is to make a difference, and children are a great place to start!
Growing up my mother ran a tutoring program out of our home. This is where I initially learned the skills involved in tutoring. Ever sinc ... read more

There is nothing quite like the feeling of observing a breakthrough on the part of a young person as they overcome obstacles to learning. My style is gentle and always positive. I keep to a quick pace, never lingering too long in one area. I am well organized and take notes during each session. I do a lot of follow-up and review during each session to reinforce prior study. I am bottom-line oriented. The only measure that is important is the student's growth.
I have tutored consistently from Janaury 2001 through the school year ending in June 2006. I began tutoring on a volunteer basis in as a Literacy Trainer for reading-challenged adults. Thereafter, I tutored high school students preparing to take the SAT, grammar school students struggling with math and reading and most recently as part of the "No Child Left Behind Act." A Little Bit About Me...

I attended very rigorous academic institutions for both high school and college that demanded that their students achieve a well rounded education. As a result, I possess a vast amount of knowledge in a wide array of subjects. I am a very proficient writer and have also passed college level calculus and statistics. I have tutored students in all 5 basic subjects as well as Spanish, which I can speak, read, and write.
I have always enjoyed teaching and helping people learn. I discovered that I had a knack for it when I participated in a program tutoring fellow students while I was in high school. I have found that the most effective way to tutor children is to get them excited about learning as well as to make sure that they believe in themselves. I have seen that all children can learn if they have the desire, the motivation, and the proper guidance.

My teaching style is unique. I make sure that students learn by doing, not by watching me do problems. As a student i always found that the most effective teachers used a style that allowed the student to do problems and ask questions. Today i put these practices to use in my tutoring. I believe that no child is a lost cause and that any child can learn given the right circumstances.
I have been a tutor throughout my undergraduate career. I have been employed by a tutoring service as well as independently. I have tutored all levels of high school Mathematics as well as most undergraduate level mathematics courses. I have 3 years experience in these various fields.

More About This Tutor...

I have an extensive background in Mathematics. I earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. I have experience tutoring in advanced Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and SAT preparation. I feel I have sufficient expertise in Physics, Biology, and History to tutor in these areas as well.
In my tutoring experience, I have worked with a wide variety of students at different learning levels. The teaching style I employ is tailored to the needs of each individual student. With mathematics, I emphasize an understanding of the key concepts underlying individual problems. I have also found that positive reinforcement is an effective tool for helping students who may be struggling with the material.

Of course it is the goal of the teacher to help the student learn the facts, terms, theories, and skills associated with the subject being taught. Through experience I've learned that the method of teaching will necessarily vary from student to student. Some students will need to be gently kept on task, while others will require a great deal of positive reinforcement. But with all students it is important to balance questioning/listening time, to clarify and explain if necessary, and to gauge the student's comprehension. I believe that we humans are born with an innate delight in learning (witness any toddler) and that restoring the feeling that learning is an adventure encourages and energizes students.
